Mumbai teenager Prithvi Shaw will be the centre of attraction

Rajkot: Probably the biggest question in the build-up of the Ranji Trophy semi-final between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu is whether Prithvi Shaw will make it in the defending champions' playing XI tomorrow. The Mumbai team management has not made his inclusion official, but former captain Amol Muzumdar recalled how he was told about his debut against Haryana in 1993-94 four days in advance by then skipper Ravi Shastri.

Muzumdar, then a 19-year-old, ended up scoring 260 on debut in Faridabad. "It (being told by Shastri) helped me a lot to prepare for my debut match. Knowing in advance was really beneficial, especially for a 19-year-old batsman, who was going to bat at No. 4," Muzumdar told mid-day yesterday. Whether skipper Aditya Tare did the same as Shastri, is not known. Muzumdar added: "Sometimes while playing a match, you are suddenly told of your selection, but in Prithvi's case, I don't think he was surprised because he is scoring runs. He has done well at the under-19 level and that will do wonders for his mindset. He appears to be in the right frame of mind."
