Priyadarshan is making a conscious effort to avoid helming comedies. The director now wants to focus on making issue-based movies. He's also keen on doing thrillers.
Best known for laugh-capers Hera Pheri, Garam Masala and Bhagam Bhaag, Priyan has had enough of laughter challenges. He says, "Hera Pheri stamped me as a comedy film director. It was one comic project after another.

The director is also known for remaking his south films for Bollywood. "I am done with that too. I have exhausted my stock. There is nothing left for me to redo here. Remakes are over for me."
His latest flick, Aakrosh is about caste wars. "This is part of my aim to steer clear of comedy. Aakrosh is a realistic film for the masses. It takes on the gotra issue widely prevalent in the country."
The Kumar Mangat production is slated to release on October 1. It stars Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu, Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal.
Adds Priyadarshan, "Even when we were looking for a title of the film, I did not want to use any word which would denote a light subject. As a result, we settled on Aakrosh as the most apt title given the film's subject."
Interestingly, Priyan had directed films like Gardish and Viraasat before going comic on B-Town. "I want to go back to making those kind of movies."
He is also directing a thriller, produced by Ratan Jain, starring Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Sameera Reddy and Kunal Kapoor with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in a cameo.
