After days of fighting a losing battle with cancer, Priyanka Chopra’s father Dr Ashok Chopra breathed his last at 12.30 pm yesterday. As news of his demise started doing the rounds, Bollywood folk and close friends rallied around the actress, extending support and a helping hand.
Sources say it was not just PC who had been living out of the hospital in Andheri, her close buddies Uday Chopra and Tarun Mansukhani too had made the medical facility their home since the past five days. It’s being said that the actress and her family were by his bedside when Dr Chopra passed away. Shah Rukh Khan visited the ailing Chopra on Sunday night and even went to meet the grieving family after the latter’s death. He also accompanied the family to the crematorium.
Priyanka was said to be extremely close to her father and had inked ‘Daddy’s Li’l Girl’ on her wrist. PC’s father was a doctor in the Indian Army and the family travelled across the country on his many postings. He also had a passion for music, which Priyanka shared.
PC’s former co-star Hrithik Roshan accompanied Dr Chopra’s mortal remains from the hospital to his Versova home. PC’s neighbour and ex-beau Shahid Kapoor was one of the first to reach her home.
A source says, “Priyanka was holding her father’s hand when he passed away.” Dr Chopra’s last rites were carried out at the Oshiwara crematorium last evening at 4.30 pm.
Just a couple of day’s back to pray for her dad’s speedy recovery, PC had participated in a Mahamrityunjay puja, which went on for six hours. She also tweeted some chants a few days ago. Priyanka postponed the shoot of her Mary Kom biopic owing to her dad’s failing health. The actress even visited the Vaishnodevi shrine some time back to pray for her father’s health.
