Rapper Pitbull says he loves working on collaborations, especially with the ladies
He made Priyanka Chopra’s song sound more ‘exotic’ than it was and made us ‘feel this moment’ with Christina Aguilera. And now, Pitbull has collaborated with Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte for We Are One (Ole Ola), the official song of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The rapper, who is currently working on his next studio album, talks about the experience of working on the song and who’s next on his collaboration wishlist:
Pitbull will perform We Are One (Ole Ola) at the opening ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup on June 12
Q. You performed in India at the opening ceremony of Indian Premier League. And now, you will be at the opening ceremony of 2014 FIFA world cup. You seem to be making a habit out of performing at sports events?
A. I am a huge sports fan. I enjoy watching it and being a part of it. It’s amazing when you get to perform at such huge sports events like the IPL and now FIFA 2014 and get appreciated for the music that you have created. So much love from people around the world makes me feel overwhelmed. I would definitely choose to perform at more such events, given an opportunity.
Q. Are you happy with the way the song has turned out?
A. We did not want to do only music with One Love, One Rhythm: The Official 2014 Fifa World Cup album. We were looking at different ways to confluence the culture of Brazil with everything that is going around the world and take it to other heights. It feels great to have collaborated with amazing artists such as Jennifer and Claudia to present an anthem like We are One for FIFA 2014.
Q. You have collaborated with Jennifer Lopez earlier as well. How was the experience this time around?
A. I have done three collaborations with Jennifer previously and all of them have been chartbusters. She is extremely talented and fun to work with. We share an amazing chemistry together. There is a lot that we bring on the individual front for the tracks.
Q. You have done so many wonderful collaborations with some very talented singers. It might be difficult but can you pick one that is really close to your heart for some reason?
A. I love working on collaborations. I recently did one with Sean Paul. Each song is completely different. I have had an amazing experience with all the artistes that I have worked in the past. All of them are extremely close to my heart.
Q. Who’s on your wishlist for a collaboration next?
A. I would love to collaborate with all the gorgeous women that I haven’t worked before with.
Q. You collaborated with Priyanka Chopra for Exotic. Are you in touch with her? What do you think of her music?
A. It was great working with Priyanka. I mean, I didn’t really know her very much, but we loved the song and she was very positive about it. When we shot the video, it was just so much fun. She has a wonderful voice.
