Bhopal: Hundreds of protesters today took to the streets and torched effigies of Dow Chemical at various places here, seeking justice for the survivors and families of the deceased victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy on its 30th anniversary.
The protesters, mostly the survivors led by NGOs, chanted slogans against Dow Chemical which took over the Union Carbide Corporation in 2001.

Toxic methyl-isocyanate gas had leaked from the now defunct Union Carbide factory here on the intervening night of
December 2 and 3, 1984 killing thousands of people and maiming many others.
Leading a protest march from Yadgar-e-Shahjahani Park to Bharat Cinema Hall crossing, well-known activist Abdul Jabbar said the victims had not received adequate compensation yet.
"The 350 metric tons of waste lying at the Carbide factory site has not been removed. As a result, people around
the site are facing air and ground water pollution," he added.
"Waste seeps into the ground during the rains," he said.
