PV Sindhu has chief national coach Pullela Gopichand to thank for her Korea Open triumph over Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in Seoul yesterday.

After the loss in last month's World Championships final in Glasgow, Gopichand and Sindhu thrived on every opportunity to iron out the flaws.

"We didn't get much time to prepare, we rectified the mistakes that she committed at Glasgow. We prepared a bit on the attacking side as well," Gopichand told mid-day yesterday.

Sindhu now has three firsts to her credit – the first Indian to win an Olympic badminton silver medal, a World Championship medal and now the Korea Open. Asked to comment on her several firsts, Gopichand remarked: "I am happy that there have been firsts. It's a good thing that she is the first Indian to win Korea Open, but this win is important not just for the growth of badminton in India but for her too. It will help her scale new heights. As far as Sunday's final is concerned, Sindhu employed a sharp, attacking strategy. Okuhara played well too, but Sindhu was slightly better."

Post-Korea, Gopichand wants Sindhu to take one tournament at a time before the year-ending Dubai Super Series Final in December. "Rather than focusing on many events, it is important that we focus on one [tournament] at a time before the Dubai final. There are a lot of Super Series tournaments like Japan, Denmark, France, China and Hong Kong. I hope she plays well in the other tournaments," added the 2001 All England champion.
