15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three youths in separate areas in Warje between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The survivor lodged a complaint with the Warje police station. The police have taken into custody two juveniles while the other two have been arrested and remanded to seven days police custody.
Two of the accused have been identified as Amir Hussain Sayyad (18) and Anil Raju Pawar (18), both residents of Ahiregaon near Warje. The perpetrators have been charged under Sections 5 (g) – (gang penetrative sexual assault on a child) and 5 (l) – (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.
Inspector (Crime), Jitendra Koli, said, “The girl lives with her parents and sister. The girl knew the gang who raped her. In her complaint, the girl stated that she was returning home from school on Saturday afternoon around 3.30 pm, when one of the juvenile accused in the case, approached her and asked her to accompany him on his bike. He took the girl to a friend’s house around 7.30 pm. Then Sayyad led the girl inside a stationary bus where he raped her.”
“Later, the second accused arrived at the scene at 10.30 pm. The girl requested him to drop her to her friend’s house, which he agreed, but instead took her to Dangat Vasti and raped her. Desperate to get away, around 1.30 am, she pleaded with the third accused to drop her home, but he too took advantage of her situation and sexually assaulted her in a shed at a nearby location. On Sunday morning around 6.30 am, Sayyad again took the girl to an isolated area and raped her,” Koli added.
“The girl was threatened by the gang with dire consequences if she informed her father about the incidents. The accused were produced in court and have been remanded to police custody for seven days,” Koli added.
A security guard of Wadgaon Sheri crematorium allegedly raped a 19-year-old BCS student on Sunday evening around 4.45 pm. The girl visited the crematorium in memory of her mother who had died eight months ago and was cremated at the Wadgaon Sheri crematorium.
The accused has been identified as Dhananjay Namdev Rokade (29), a resident of Wadgaon Sheri. The survivor has filed a complaint against Rokade with the Yerawada police station.
Rokade has been charged with sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Rokade was working at the crematorium on a contract-basis for the past two years. Primary interrogations revealed that Rokade had a few offences registered against him. “We have sought details of his criminal record,” said Assistant Police Inspector D P Chavan.
Chavan added, “The mother of the girl had died eight months ago. On Sunday, the girl got emotional and decided to visit the crematorium in memory of her mother who was cremated there.”
“Rokade saw the girl walking by herself and approached her. After gaining her confidence, he took her to a room where he beat her up, abused her and then raped her.
He also threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident to her family,” API Chavan said.
“The girl managed to escape when Rokade left the room to drink water. When she reached the Wadgaon Sheri gaothan area, she desperately cried for help.
Some locals then nabbed Rokade. These residents will be crucial witnesses in this case,” API Chavan added.
