The city will play host to Hollywood actor Tom Cruise next Friday. The star will be in town to promote his upcoming film with actor Anil Kapoor. Cruise will be staying for two days at the Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre. The organisers and the hotel management have been hard at work since the last couple of days making preparations for the actor's stay and planning the food menu.
The hotel refused to divulge details of Cruise's stay, except that he would be staying in the presidential suite.
"Cruise will be accommodated in the presidential suite of the hotel, which is the most luxurious and expensive suite in town. The cost of the room is Rs 1.2 lakh for a night. And Cruise will be our guest for two days," said Abhijit Chitnis, director sales and marketing of Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre. While the hotel staff said they had not been briefed about the kind of food the actor would prefer, the management over the next week will be working towards creating the best hospitality experience for the star.
50 speciality dishes
A special team of five chefs has been entrusted with the job of preparing a spread of 50 speciality dishes for Cruise. "We have executive chef Subhash Sinha and speciality chef Ajmal Salim, among others, to execute and monitor the preparations. Cruise doesn't have any specific dietary restrictions; hence, we will be laying out a grand spread of delicacies from lounging kind of food, health food, Indian food and speciality food. He can pick whatever he likes," said Chitnis.
Cruise will also be shaking a leg with socialites and city celebrities at an after party, which will be specially organised for the Hollywood actor at the nightclub Miami. "He is the showstopper, we don't need anything else," said Chitnis. Socialite Uzma Poonawalla, who is on the guest list to meet Cruise, said: "It's great to have the heartthrob in Pune. I would like to interact with him at the party, because he has a persona that appeals to a woman."
Fashion designer Nivedita Saboo, who will also be attending the event, said: "I would love to design for Tom Cruise and see him in my designs. He is an intellectual person and sees films and fashion from an intellectual perspective. Hence, I would love to interact with him on what he thinks about fashion in Hollywood."
