Pune paraglider dies in crash in Bulgarian mountains
Life cut short
“Dilip had left for Bulgaria on July 13 to participate in the championship and the incident took place on the second day of the tournament when he was paragliding in the Balkan mountains over the village of Vasil Lavski,” Kotecha’s cousin Dr Shrayansh K said.
“We received the news from the authorities in Bulgaria on Sunday night,” he said. Rescue efforts futile Dr Shrayansh said that though the rescue team had rushed Kotecha to the hospital, he could not be saved.
“We have applied for the visa and will be going to Bulgaria to bring his body back to the city,” he said. Kotecha had won the 2009 Pre World Cup Championship held in Serbia and was the first Indian abroad, in paragliding, to win the tournament.
In the past, Kotecha had participated in several paragliding competitions in Chian, Korea, Brazil, Slovenia and Switzerland. A real estate consultant by profession, Kotecha is survived by wife and two children.
