In the second phase of polling across the country, which begins today, Pune has the most number of candidates u2013 36.

Prominent party candidates include sitting MP Suresh Kalmadi (Congress), Anil Sirole (BJP), Ranajit Shirole (MNS), and D S Kulkarni (BSP). Former bureaucrat Arun Bhatia who has floated the People's Guardian Party is yet another contestant from the constituency.

Satara in western Maharashtra has the least number of candidates pegged at five. And among the 20 women candidates in the second phase in the state, maximum number of seven contestants are registered in the neighbouring Baramati, where NCP candidate Supriya Sule is considered to be the favourite. Supriya is pitted against BJP's Kanta Nalawde.

As the propaganda sirens of political parties were silenced last evening, the canvassing for the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, came to an end. The district election machinery here got ready to ensure smooth conduct of polling in 12 constituencies in Western Maharashtra.
