A 95-year-old woman was found murdered at Daun Kalan village, about 15km from here, in the wee hours of Monday. Her body was found lying at her cot outside her house with serious injury marks on the head which might have been caused with sharp edged weapon, police said.

The blood stains were also found within 70-80 yards from where the body was found, Patiala SP Harvinder Singh Virk said. Police suspected that the woman was first taken by
assailants to a nearby field and then kept the body at the cot after killing her. We are also investigating whether she was raped before she was killed, they said.
Her family alleges that she was sexually assaulted. The grandson of the elderly woman, who used to sleep outside the house, told NTDV, “The family slept around midnight. In the morning we found her dead. She had been raped and died because of the wounds in her head," he said.
"Based on preliminary investigations, we can rule out dispute over property. It could be the work of some drug addicts," Harvinder Virk, a police officer, further told NDTV.
Meanwhile, a case under section 302 of IPC has been registered in this regard at Sadar police station.
