Woman tried to kill self and her two children by jumping on Metro track

What could have possibly gone wrong that a mother of two decided to end her life and kill the little ones by jumping before a moving train! Anita (32) was critically injured after she leaped on the Metro track before a train which was pulling into the Seelampur station in east Delhi on Monday morning.u00a0u00a0

The incident happed at around 8 am. The children, aged two and four years, escaped any major injuries, but the woman is in a critical condition as she was run over by a few bogies before the train came to a halt after bystanders raised an alarm.

"The injured were immediately rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where doctors said the woman was in a critical condition. The children suffered minor bruises. Apparently, the woman took such a step after she had a quarrel with her husband Vinod. Vinod works as a salesman in an apparel shop in east Delhi," said a police official.

A Metro official said: "The woman was not carrying her children at the time of the incident. She did jump in front of the train but without her kids. The train driver applied the emergency brakes and she wasn't run over."
However, police maintained that the train halted only after two coaches passed over the woman and her daughters. The mother suffered serious head injuries. The three fell in the hollow area between the tracks which is why they were saved from being crushed under wheels of the train.
