Sheetal Mafatlal, president of Mafatlal Luxury, may have all the wealth in the world, but when she became one of the 50 inmates in the Byculla Women's Jail yesterday, she did not get preferential treatment.

She was brought to the jail at 5 pm and was asked to enter her personal details in the prison register. She was then moved to section 2 of the general barrack.
Sheetal did not seek special permission from the court to bring home food. As a result, her only option was to eat the food served inside the prison.

The Esplanade Court has remanded Sheetal to judicial custody till June 12, but she'd be hoping that she's out on bail soon because life won't be easy inside the prison.

Her daily routine
Sheetal will have to wake up at 6 am and join other undertrials for morning prayers and then breakfast. The socialite can make use of the library that stocks English, Hindi, Marathi newspapers and magazines.

The good news is that she need not work during her stay, since she's an undertrial.
The barrack's television set, which is switched on from 6 pm to 9 pm, airs only Doordarshan.
She will be provided with two blankets, a bed sheet and a coir pillow, but will have to sleep on the floor.
High hopes
Advocate Satish Maneshinde, Sheetal's lawyer, said, "We have applied for bail. The matter will be heard by the court today."
A prison official said, "If she is granted bail, she will be allowed to leave the jail. Otherwise, she will be produced before the court on June 12."
Life in the jail
Wake up at 6 am and join other undertrials for prayers.
Queue up for breakfast consisting a cup of milk or tea, a banana and upma.

Among the other 50 female inmates sharing the barrack are petty offenders, pick pockets, illegal Bangladeshi nationals and interestingly, Malegaon blast suspect sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and matka king Suresh Bhagat's ex-wife Jaya. However, prison officials clarified that they were lodged in separate cells.
