The days of appointments to the Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan made on political considerations are over.
Nine years after the enactment of the Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (Shirdi) Act 2004, the state has drafted new rules for the appointment to the 17-member management committee of the Trust.
According to the rules, eight members must have a qualified background in fields such as law, business management, public administration, engineering, architecture, public health, medicine and rural development.

Additionally, these members cannot be mere degree holders. For instance, a law graduate will have to be registered as an advocate for at least ten years. Similarly, a member from the field of business management must hold a degree of a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or an equivalent with 10 years of experience or a CA. The same yardstick of 10 years of experience from the respective fields will be applied to members from the field of engineering, architecture, public health or medicine and rural development.
Besides these eight members, the remaining seven should be either patrons or life members of the bhakta mandal of the temple and should be residents of Shirdi or from the Ahmadnagar district. Additionally, two members on the board should be from the women’s category and from the socially, economically weaker sections
The rule also states that any member on the committee should be able to attend the activities for at least two days in a calendar month. The rules also declared that no member who has any direct or indirect interest with the Sansthan’s property will be involved and persons having a criminal background or who have skipped three meetings will be considered ineligible for appointment.
The new rules were drafted after a matter was heard before the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court complaining that the members of the committee were appointed on purely political considerations.
