Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan had a busy 2016. Apart from crooning hit number, Jag Ghoomeya (Sultan), he also worked extensively on independent projects. He released an album, titled Ramadan, and a couple of singles. Music aficionados lauded his track Halka Halka Suroor. Now, Rahat has come up with a new single, Saware, which features actor Kunal Kemmu.

He started working on the track, composed and written by Anupama Raag, last July, before the September Uri attacks led to disharmony between India and Pakistan.

Single on my mind
When the singer spoke to hitlist from London, he expressed the desire to take up more independent projects. "I did two singles last year and wish to work on many more. We were working on Saware for long. I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I did working on it," says Rahat, hoping tension between the two countries ends soon. "I miss my Indian fans. Jaise hi haalath behtar honge, main India zaroor aaunga (I will definitely visit India as soon as things get better between the two countries). I have always got love from my fans in India and Pakistan, and I am confident they will continue to admire my work."

While he doesn't have any songs on his Bollywood discography so far, Rahat tells us he has already started working on a new album that will release later in the year.

Being selective
Nephew to late Pakistani qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, says he likes being selective about work. "For me, quality is more important that quantity. Even if you look at my songs in Bollywood, I have been selective. My first track (Mann Ki Lagan from the film Paap) released in 2003 and I didn't sing anything else that year. For me, doing good music is most important."
