Rahul Bose is busy lending finishing touches to Poorna, which marks his return to direction after a 15-year hiatus. As we wait for this biopic on Malavath Poorna, the youngest girl to scale Mount Everest, we are equally, if not more, excited about the project he will be taking up next — part two of 2003 musical comedy, Jhankaar Beats.

Says Rahul, “I will produce a sequel to Jhankaar Beats. Once Poorna releases, I will start working on it. It will be an interesting project. I will act in the film and someone else will direct it.”

Apart from acting in Bollywood and international projects, Rahul also wants to try his hand at other mediums.

He is doing a web series, but refuses to divulge details. “I am allowed to speak about it,” he chuckles.

Having worked in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films, Rahul is now keen to venture into Marathi film industry. “I have wanted to work in a Marathi film for a while, but I have not got any offers.

Marathi cinema is going through exciting times. I would also love to produce Marathi films, as the state has many unsung heroes,” he says.

Rahul calls film direction his “first love”, something that interests him more than acting. His last directorial, Everybody Says I’m Fine, released in 2001.

“After I directed my first film, I got back-to-back acting offers. They kept me so occupied that I couldn’t direct another movie. However, after doing a Japanese film, I slowed down and got to hear this amazing story of Malavath Poorna. Her success story combines three things close to my heart — cinema, sports and social causes,” says Rahul.
