Rajkot: The England attack may be weakened by the absence of their pace spearhead James Anderson but his bowling partner Stuart Broad will be looking to make the Rajkot Test a memorable one. And why not? The Rajkot match will be Broad’s 100th Test for England and he knows that he must keep his emotions in check when he walks to mark his bowling run-up in what he considers ‘one of the most crucial matches in his life and in the series’.

“Yeah obviously, I am aware how special an achievement it is because of the players that have come before me. The amount they have given to English cricket, it’s a special cap to receive. Actually, I think, what excites me more is that this 100th game being the start of a huge series for us as well. It’s great to get a milestone in such an important game because we all know how vital it is to start these tours well,” said the 30-year-old who rued the absence of a warm-up game, especially after their shock defeat to minnows Bangladesh.

“It was a tough experience losing 10 wickets (against Bangladesh) in that one session in Dhaka. But we have been training really hard for the last couple of weeks. We have learnt quickly and are getting there. But we have not had warm-up games here, so it can be tricky” said Broad.

With 360 scalps in his kitty he is no mean achiever and Broad will definitely have a point to prove this time around having limped his way out of the Test series when England came from one game down to tame India in their own den in 2012-13. Broad went wicketless in both the Ahmedabad and Mumbai Tests and flew home after that due to his recurring heel problem.

“We have beaten India two times on the bounce in a Test series here. We are aware that it’s a tough place to come and play cricket but we have got nothing to fear because not many of us have played cricket here. So, that’s in fact a positive that you can go out and play your natural game and take the fight to India,” added the right-arm speedster from Nottingham.

Broad added that playing a five-match series is always an advantage because you, “get a lot of time to learn from experience.”
