Rajkot: Demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes has hit English fans, who came to watch the first India-England Test in Rajkot yesterday, pretty hard. This group of around 30 arrived in Rajkot from Mumbai on Tuesday evening and reached the stadium yesterday morning to buy tickets for the match.

They stood in the queue at the ticket counter outside the SCA stadium in Khanderi for more than an hour but couldn't buy match tickets as they only had R500 and R1000 notes.

The man at the counter told the group to go to a bank and get low denomination notes (100 or below) if they want to watch the match. The group tried to explain that all banks were closed and they were left with no option. But the man at the counter refused to budge.

Seeing their plight, few locals, who had extra tickets with them, gave them to the English fans. But a majority of them had to return to their hotel disappointed. A few lucky ones, who managed to get complimentary passes and tickets from people whom they knew in the city, could watch their team in action from the stands.
