Jaisingh Mapari, the sarpanch of village Ralegansiddhi and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare's close aide, is contesting the Zilla Parishad election on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket.

The development came as a surprise to many as NCP workers had created a ruckus in Ralegansiddhi following Hazare's "Just one slap?" comment when party chief Sharad Pawar was hit by a youth in Delhi a month ago. Mapari said, "I am contesting the election and Anna is not objecting to the idea."

Mapari also said that Hazare had made it very clear that he had no issues with any political party and readily gave him permission to contest the poll.
