Rajlot: Seventeen-year-old Mumbai opening batsman Prithvi Shaw was finally capped as a first-class cricketer when he was included in the playing XI for the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu here yesterday.

"Like every Mumbai under-14 cricketer I too dreamt of playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy one day. I have accomplished it, but I also know that I have more responsibilities to shoulder," Shaw told mid-day yesterday. Mumbai made two changes in their side which beat Hyderabad in the quarter-final.
Shaw occupied Kevin D'Almeida's place while Balwinder Singh Sandhu came in place of Tushar Deshpande.

Head coach Chandrakant Pandit, who presented the Mumbai cap to Shaw before the match, said: "Prithvi batted well in the nets.

"He is very young, but I was glad to watch the way he played."

"It was a memorable moment for me when Chandu Sir handed me my Mumbai Ranji cap," said Shaw.

"There was good intensity on the field. Everyone was cheering up whenever I fielded the ball. Skipper Tare, Nayar… all my teammates have shown a lot of faith and confidence in me," the young gun added.

Mumbai are gunning for their 42nd Ranji Trophy title.
