Mohali: Mandeep Singh struck his ninth first-class century and added 178 runs with veteran keeper-batsman Uday Kaul (92 batting) as Punjab scored 235 for two against Railways on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy group league encounter.
Manan Vohra (5) and Jiwanjot Singh (31) with Punjab's scorecard reading 57 for two. But that was the last success for the Railways as Mandeep scored an even 100 off 196 balls with 14 boundaries. Kaul's innings was a dogged effort as he hit only nine boundaries en route his 245-ball unbeaten vigil.
Skipper Yuvraj Singh is yet to get a bat. Arnab Nandi was the only successful bowler getting 1 for 55. India discard Karn Sharma went wicketless in 21 overs while India A seamer Anureet Singh didn't play.
