Despite scoring three centuries in three weeks, there is still some uncertainty looming over right-handed batsman Jay Bista's spot in the playing XI for Mumbai's next Ranji Trophy encounter against Odisha in Bhubaneswar from November 1. Bista got an opportunity to come back into the Mumbai Ranji team after opening the season with a double ton (212) against Tamil Nadu in the CK Nayudu Trophy in Thirunelveli early this month. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, scoring a crucial 135 against Madhya Pradesh at Indore that helped Mumbai earn three crucial points in their season opener.

However, Bista was not included in the playing XI of Mumbai's next Ranji tie against Tamil Nadu which cocluded on Friday. It did not deter him and he slammed 128 against Kerala in an U-23 contest. Bista's sheer consistency may have forced the selectors to include him in the 16-member team for the Odisha encounter, but getting a place in the playing XI would be unlikely as the team think-tank may prefer to open with Akhil Herwadkar and Prithvi Shaw, who scored tons in the last match against Tamil Nadu at MCA's Bandra-Kurla Complex ground.
