A 24 year-old youth driving recklessly injured two constables on Carter Road

A case of rash driving was registered against a 24 year-old youth from Andheri, who was out for spin with two friends on Carter Road, on Saturday. He crashed the car he was driving into a police bike. Two policemen were injured in the process.

The incident took place at 7.30 pm near actor Rajesh Khanna's bungalow along the seafront. The policemen were reportedly out on patrol. According to the police, the accused, Ishant Satish Tandon, was driving his Maruti A-Star car (MH 02 BT 4255) rashly. While taking a U-turn on the road, the car collided into the bike.


"A case under section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and section 337 (causing hurt by act, endangering life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code has been filed against Tandon," said Senior Police Inspector Samad Sheikh of Bandra police station. Tandon is currently out on bail.


The injured, Head Constable Vishwas Mhaske and Constable Yogesh Namdas were taken to Bhabha Hospital by passers by. Later in the night, the two were shifted to Lilavati Hospital. While Mhaske has been discharged from the hospital, Namdas is still under observation. A doctor from Bhabha Hospital who requested anonymity clarified that Tandon was not found to be under the influence of alcohol or any drug.
