Raveena does a rain dance

Dancing in the rains isn't as romantic as the films make it out to be, so says Raveena Tandon. The ravishing actor who's still remembered for her jhatkas in the rains, especially in songs like Tip Tip Barsa Pani and Kabhi Tu Chaliya Lagta Hai, talks to CS about her rain numbers:

Who: Raveena Tandon
What: Talking about her rain song dance memories
Where: Carter Road, Bandra (West)

Tip-ping point
I knew we had a winner with Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast, butu00a0 I never expected Tip Tip Barsa Pani to be such a hit. The song was filmed in Filmistan on a construction site. Since I was down with fever during the shooting, spoonfuls of ginger and honey mixture kept me alive. Because of all the construction there, the ground was full of nails, wood splinters and stones. I got bad bruises on my elbows, knees and feet while dancing. That part was horrible as I couldn't even wear shoes or knee caps. But I can't afford to complain because the song did well. Priyanka Chopra tells me that its one of her fave songs, and she hears it daily while putting on her makeup.u00a0

Getting cold feet
I have done a rain number with Shahrukh for the film Zamana Deewana (1995). The song Ab Hai Neend Kise, Ab Hai Chain Kahan was shot in Film City in December. It was freezing cold, and we had used tanker water to create the monsoon effect. I hate cold water and every time, we used to get sprayed, I would start shivering and my teeth would chatter. Poor Shah Rukh, who was wearing a jacket, would take it off and put it around me between shots. And the scene that we were filming was supposed to be really romantic. Seeing my condition, SRK started laughing. I too started giggling realising that SRK simply couldn't feel sensuous in front of me (laughs out loud).u00a0

The debut shower
Well, I also did a rain number Kabhi Tu Chaliya Lagta Hai in my first film Patthar Ke Phool. It was summer, and I was enjoying getting wet. I was only 15 at that time, and simultaneously preparing for my FYJC exams. My feet got bruised at the end of the sequence. That was my first taste of an actress' life. Personally, I love the rains. I think Mumbai looks loveliest in the monsoons. My favourite rain songs are Kaate Nahi Kat Te (Mr India), Lagi Aaj Sawan Ki Wo Jhadi Hai (Chandni), Rim Jhim Gire Saawan (Manzil) and Jaane Do Naa from Sagar, though it's not really a rain song. The chemistry between Chintuji (Rishi Kapoor) and Dimpleji is sizzling!
