Gautham H G, a student pursuing a diploma in Aeronautical Engineering at the Hindustan Electronics Academy Polytechnic rushed to Carlton Towers yesterday when he learnt that a fire had broken out there.
"I reached Carlton Towers around 4.45 pm and requested the police officials to let me enter the building to rescue people. The police give their permission. On the sixth floor, I used a fire extinguisher hanging on the wall to put off the fire. It was smoky, people were shouting for help. With the help of the fire force personnel we broke open the door with the extinguisher cylinder. I also broke the window panes and glasses as the smoke had covered inside. There were around 12 people trapped on the floor who were brought down safely," said Gautham, who rescued a woman who lay unconscious on the floor.
Men bled
"She was taken to the other side of the building where there was fresh air. She was given first aid, and later shifted to a hospital. I saw three to four men who were bleeding on that floor. They were also brought down and shifted to hospital." The police officials around were all praise foru00a0 Gautham's efforts. "He is the real hero of the day. He helped the fire brigade officials and saved many lives." said a policemen at the spot.
