Refused money, man slashes wife's throat in broad daylight

A 35-year-old woman’s neck was slashed by her estranged husband outside Vidyavihar station in broad daylight on Wednesday. The victim, Anusaya Vijay Gaikwad, was immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital where she is recuperating.

According to Tilak Nagar police, who have registered an attempt to murder case against her husband Vijay Gaikwad, the incident occurred while Anusaya — who cleans the Vidyavihar station skywalk — was at work on Wednesday morning.

Vijay allegedly used a razor to slash his wife’s throat as she refused to give him any money. According to the authorities, Anusaya and her two sons did not stay with Vijay as he is unemployed and given to demanding money from her. “This is Anusaya’s second marriage. Her first husband expired 15 years ago. She has two sons, 18 and 16 years of age. Anusaya was unwilling to marry Vijay initially, but he forcefully married her. However, he stopped working and they later separated,” said an official from the Tilak Nagar police station.

The police said they arrested Vijay, who was caught hold of by the public when he tried to flee, adding that he had been threatening her after she refused to give him any money.u00a0
