He mesmerised music buffs with his soulful Sufi renditions and made Bollywood songs such as Sajda (My Name is Khan), Teri Ore (Singh is King), O Re Piya (Aaja Nachle) and Jiya Dhadak Dhadak (Kalyug), among other instant chartbusters. But taking a break from films, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is ready with his new album, Back 2 Love.

“I wanted to take some time before I come out with an album. Times are changing and people’s preferences are changing as well. I wanted to come with something that people like. I wanted that freedom, so I took my time,” says Khan, whose album will release on June 9.

Back 2 Love is a collection of 10 songs. This album also includes collaborations with music composer duo Salim-Sulaiman and singer Shreya Ghoshal. He made his name in Bollywood with his love songs and most tracks in this album are love songs with Sufi influences; the exception being  Habibi, which has an Arabic touch to it. “I’ve tried to dabble into something different with this track,” reveals the singer.

While the prolific artiste is excited about his new venture, he is not removed from reality. “I know that releasing an album nowadays is like committing suicide,” he remarks bluntly, adding, “Albums are not doing well, at this point in time. But I’m trying to change things, and this is a step in that direction. I hope that taking a cue from this, other artistes start releasing more albums, as well,” states Khan, who is the nephew of legendary Pakistani singer Ustad Nusrat Fateh
Ali Khan.

Khan has crooned all the tracks in the album and has also penned the lyrics for two songs — Aag Lagi and Sab Jhooth.
