Republicans win Remedian rink title

Veteran coach Marzban 'Bawa' Patel's Republicans beat Union Bank 4-3 in a keenly contested final to win the Remedian Sports Club-organised five-a-side floodlit rink hockey tournament at Our Lady of Remedy High School, Poisar (Kandivli) recently.

Republicans got their goals thanks to a brace each by Pranit Naik and Venkatesh Devkar, while Vikram Singh scored a brace and Suraj Shahi added the third goal for Union Bank.

Republicans' hardworking defender Conroy Remedios was adjudged Player of the Final for his stellar role in guarding the left board in defence. Union Bank's Vikram Singh was named Player of the Tournament, while Pranit was adjudged Most Promising Player of the 17-team tournament.

The Republicans boys received a cash award of Rs 10,000, while Union Bank were richer by Rs 7,000.
