Aspiring Congress MLAs will not just face competition from rival candidates during the Assembly elections, but also from disgruntled MPs within the party.

According to party sources, Vidhan Sabha hopefuls will have to deal with MPs whom they had opposed during the Lok Sabha elections.

While most sitting MLAs are likely to get re-nominated, some like Borivli's P U Mehta, who is seeking a nomination from the Malad (East) constituency, is likely to face opposition from Sanjay Nirupam, Congress MP from Mumbai North.
Mehta had vigorously campaigned with the party top brass against Nirupam's nomination during the Lok Sabha polls.

Nirupam is now expected to extract his pound of flesh by opposing Mehta's nomination in whatever way he can. Mehta, however, refused to comment.

Priya Dutt, sitting MP from Mumbai North Central, too faced opposition from Kherwadi MLA Janardhan Chandurkar.

Now, Chandurkar, who also faces competition from former MLC Shrikant Sarmalkar, a Narayan Rane supporter, may find his nomination challenged by Dutt.

Chandurkar, however, said, "She is my leader and there is no misunderstanding between us now."

Party sources say sitting MLA from Trombay Yusuf Abrahani may also find himself in a spot, as south Mumbai Congress MP Milind Deora was unhappy with his role in the campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls.

Despite repeated attempts, none of the MPs responded to calls and messages.

Opposing Nagma

According to sources, Nirupam is opposed to actress Nagma's candidature from the Malad (west) constituency. The actress has been interviewed by the party.

She had also expressed a desire to contest the Lok Sabha polls from the Mumbai North constituency, but the Congress chose Nirupam, who now perceives Nagma as a threat.

While Nirupam said, "This is not true," Nagma said, "I am not aware about any such thing."
