Pune Municipal Corporation’s decision to increase the city’s water supply from alternate days to once every day will have brought relief to citizens. However, there are interesting reports on what was discussed behind closed doors during Thursday’s PMC review meeting with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.

After several weeks of water cuts, city corporators had been demanding regular water supply. On Thursday, Chavan conducted a meeting to review the water situation in the district. Reportedly, it was State Cooperative Minister Harshavardhan Patil who insisted that water be released from Khadakwasla dam, after PMC Commissioner Vikas Deshmukh explained that water was currently being supplied on alternate days.

Patil directed Deshmukh to assess the water storage status of the dam, and release water accordingly. Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh, who was also present at the meeting, said that the Chief Minister also gave orders to release water from Kukdi dam to meet the needs of four districts — Beed, Ahmednagar, Pune and Solapur.

Pune District Collector Saurabh Rao and Solapur District Collector Pravin Gedam were also present at the review meeting.
