Khadaki police station officials yesterday arrested an autorickshaw driver for robbing a 20-year-old of valuables and cash on Tuesday. The robbery took place in the evening near Range Hill Bridge in Khadaki. The victim’s loss was pegged at Rs 5,000. Police officials said the suspect, Navnath Londhe (32), along with two accomplices, robbed Sunny Gadwal after he boarded Londhe’s auto at Pune railway station for Bopodi.
“After Gadwal, who works in a courier agency, sat in the rickshaw, Londhe’s accomplices too boarded the auto by posing as passengers. However, when the autorickshaw was about to reach Range Hill Bridge, Londhe’s accomplices threatened Gadwal using a sharp object and snatched him mobile phone, wristwatch and cash, amounting to Rs 5,000. They then pushed him out of the auto and fled the spot,” Police sub-inspector R A Dimelo of Khadaki police station said.
Gadwal approached the Khadki police station and registered a compliant against the robbers. “Based on Gadwal’s description, we initiated the investigation, and arrested Londhe from Khadaki. But his two accomplices managed to escape,” Police Inspector Nishikant Bhujbal of Khadki police station.
Londhe and his accomplices had been booked under Sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 392 (punishment for robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.
