Bachchan recalled that Rituparno Ghosh was keen on working in another movie with him. “Just weeks back Ritu had called me and told me that he has a subject and he wants me to act in it. He said that we would discuss it after you come back from Cannes. And now I hear this. Such a talented young man, He was just 49. It is a terrible loss, he was such a fine filmmaker. I did hear that he has been ailing from pancreatic disease but medicine takes care of a lot of things these days. It is very, very sad.”

The multiple national award winning filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh has worked individually with each member of the Bachchan family. He worked with Jaya Bachchan in Sunglass, with Aishwarya in Chokher Bali and Raincoat and Abhishek in Antarmahal. “I messaged Abhishek, Aishwarya and Jaya in the morning and they were also shocked. All three are out of the country. Jaya had this equation with him where they would discuss and argue about films,” said Bachchan.

“It is so strange that just yesterday Sujoy Ghosh (the director of Kahaani) and I were discussing him. Sujoy just came back from Kolkata after shooting with Ritu,” added Bachchan. Ghosh is making his acting debut in Rituparno Ghosh’s film and was playing Byomkesh Bakshi, a popular fictional detective in Bengali literature.
