"I am really excited about working in Madhur's next project. Madhur has not explained much about the role I am going to play, but I consider him to be a fantastic director," Rituparna said.

Rituparna, who won the National award for her role in Rituparno Ghosh's Dahan, made her Hindi film debut five years ago with Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh opposite Rajpal Yadav.

The 38-year-old actress said she is looking forward to Bhandarkar's film which deals with a serious topic of human relationships interspersed with comic touches.

Rituparna, who has a balanced number of parallel and commercial films in her kitty, is also excited about veteran actor-director Amol Palekar's English film And Once time.

Slated for release next week, the film has Rituparna playing the main lead. It is an intensely contemplative tale on relationship, capturing the psyche of a man who has lost his wife and child in a violent attack and who faces another dilemma while trying to make things normal, she says.

"For me it's a turning phase to have acted in the film made by a person I admire so much, a person whose comedies I had grown up watching and enjoying. I am very curious to know how the audience reacts to my role in this film. I enjoyed shooting opposite my co-actors like Rajat Kapoor," she said.

Asked if the film's English medium would not limit its reach, Rituparna said, "On the contrary, I look at it in a different way. As this is my first English language film, made by a person of Amolji's stature, it can take me to segments I have not reached so far."

Rituparna, who also counts Priyadarshan among her favourite directors, said her experience of working with the comic-gifted genius was excellent in Bum Bum Bole, but the response of the film left her unhappy.

Asked if mostly taking up strong female roles in films detracts from her overall profile as an actress, she said subjects like marital rape (in Mittal vs Mittal) or surrogate motherhood (in Life Express) were close to her heart.
"As a woman I strongly feel these issues need to be taken up and for me the subject, the treatment and the script matter most. I have no qualms working with young directors, who mostly make this type of films, as they are far more unconventional and bold," she said.

But Rituparna regrets that these films, where she put in intense performances, had failed to deliver for which she blamed the packaging, publicity and the final execution.

"I have since decided to do big banners like Priyadarshan, Madhur while being careful about new directors' projects, many of whom are no doubt creating a special niche segment in the past few years," she said.

Rituparna, who is supposed to come up opposite Sharmila Tagore in a coup of sorts in a Bengali film soon, feels great to share screen space with the veteran actress.

"It just feels great. The other lead is Priyangshu Chatterjee. And the story revolves round a Bengali family, the tale of its rise and here I play a significant role," she said, adding that it would be directed by a debutante film-maker Rishi Mukherjee.

Rituparna is also eager to know the audience response to her film Arohon by director Pinaki Choudhury which has been screened at the Montreal film festival.

The actress, who has worked with stalwarts in the industry from Tarun Mazumdar to Buddhadev Dasgupta and Rituparno Ghosh, considers the audience the ultimate judge and attempts to reach out to them with every film.

"I let people judge, for me their response is what counts most," she said.
