Road rage: 21-yr-old abducted, assaulted

A 21-year-old man was allegedly kidnapped and beaten up by a group of four men at Kandivali (East) on Saturday. According to the police, the man was taken to Mira Road, thrashed, and later abandoned there. The victim managed to return to his Kandivali residence in an auto rickshaw a few hours later.

According to the Samta Nagar police, the youth, Rahul Tasgaonkar, lives in the residential quarters of Kamgar hospital at Akurli Road, Kandivali (East). His father, Vijay, works as a doctor at the hospital, while Rahul had tagged on with a political party after pursuing his graduation in engineering.

Around 10.30 pm on Saturday, Rahul was attempting to cross the road outside his building when he saw a Toyota Innova approaching him. Rahul signalled the car to slow down, but the driver did not appreciate his gestures and started hurling obscenities. After the two had a heated argument, the driver, Mahendra Rajendra Dillod (26), a Mira Road resident associated with a political party, left the spot.

Cops said that about half an hour later, Dillod returned, with another car — a Maruti Swift — in tow. The Innova and Swift had two occupants each. Dillod looked around for Rahul and found him sitting inside the compound of his building. The four packed Rahul into the Innova and sped away. After Rahul’s friends, who were present with him at the time, informed his father of the incident, the latter filed a kidnapping complaint with Samta Nagar police.

According to the police, the accused took Rahul to a secluded spot on Mira Road, assaulted him, and left him there. Rahul then returned home in an auto rickshaw around 3 am and was taken to Bhagwati hospital. He had sustained minor injuries to his face. The police said that no ransom calls were made to the family.

N Kamble, senior inspector of Samta Nagar police station, said the four accused have been booked under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 363 (kidnapping), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 34 (common intent) of Indian Penal Code. “The cars’ registration numbers were noted down by Rahul’s friends. The Maruti Swift was tracked down and we arrested Dillod from Bhayander on Monday. We have seized the Swift,” said Kamble.
