Robbers attack 60-year-old, flee with gold chains in Mumbai

Two motorcycle-borne chain snatchers robbed a senior citizen on Saturday night, while she was on her way home. The robbers not only made away with her two gold chains, but also flashed them at the woman before they left the crime scene.


According to the complaint registered by 60-year-old Sitabai Gadigaokar, the incident happened at 9.30 pm on Saturday at the Mogal Lane in Mahim, when she was returning home after visiting a nearby laundry store.


"I walking home when two men followed me on their bike. The rider then overtook and pretended to park the bike. Meanwhile, the pillion rider got down from the bike and walked towards me and attempted to snatch my mangalsutra. When I resisted, he pushed me, making me fall to the ground. He then snatched my managalsutra. After that he also pulled off my other gold chain," the statement of Sitabai reads.

“He rushed back to the bike and before fleeing the scene, flashed the snatched gold chains at me. It was all so sudden that I could not see the number of the motorcycle,” she further said.

Following the incident, Sitabai rushed to her house in the building located a few metres away from where the incident took place and narrated it to her son Vijay. The two later reported the matter to the Mahim police.

The police have registered an FIR against two unknown men and the culprits are yet to be arrested.

“The gold chains are totally worth R2.25 lakhs. We have registered an FIR under Sections 392 and 34 of the IPC against two unknown persons who are yet to be arrested,” said a police officer.
