The 'Chennai Express' helmer is the second filmmaker, after Prabhu Deva, to be roped in by Sanjay Dutt Productions.
"Rohit Shetty will do a film for Sanjay Dutt's production house. The film will go on floors in 2016. We are yet to decide on the genre, the subject and actors for this (untitled) film," a sources said.
Dutt, 54, is currently in Pune's Yerawada jail, where he is serving his remaining three years and six months sentence in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. In Dutt's absence, his wife Maanyata is managing the production house. Shetty and Dutt have worked in a comedy film, 'All The Best'.
Shetty, currently one of the top notch Bollywood directors, has previously made mass entertainers like 'Golmaal' series and 'Singham'. His latest venture 'Chennai Express', an action-comedy film features Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead, is set for August 9 release.
A few days back, Dutt's firm had signed choreographer- director Prabhu Deva for a project. At presently, Sanjay Dutt Productions is working on 'Hasmukh Pighal Gaya', a film being directed by debutante Sejal Shah.
