Utd ace Rooney taunts Manchester rivals' multi million squad after community shield victory

Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney taunted eternal rivals Manchester City after beating them 3-2 to lift the Community Shield title on Sunday, the Sun reported.

Cash-rich City, who started the game with new boys Sergio Aguero and Gael Clichy on the bench, took the lead through a Joleon Lescott header off a David Silva free kick in the 38th minute.

Roberto Mancini's men doubled their lead moments before half time via a 30 yard screamer by Bosnian international Edin Dzeko.

United came back strong in the second half and Chris Smalling pulled one back before a brace from Nani completed the assault.

Rooney said: "This shows who the best team is.

"All game we dominated. We never know when a game is finished, we took them apart. The scoreline is deserved.

"We are the champions and we're the team to beat. We want to prove that. Obviously they are wanting to try and fight us for that title and today I think there was only one team that was going to win."

Later on, he tweeted: "I have to say I think today was a footballing lesson."

Loss a wake up call
City defenderu00a0 Micahu00a0 Richardsu00a0 believes the defeat will serve as a wake-up call to them.

"As much as it pains me to say it, United were the better team. It was a bit of a wake-up call for us, people know what we can do but maybe we got a little bit ahead of ourselves," Richards told reporters.

He added: "We just didn't seem to get going. We didn't really seem to create much even though we went 2-0 up before half-time. I didn't think it was like a usual derby. There were no flying tackles."
