The Corps of Detectives has announced a Rs 25,000 reward for information on a five-year-old girl kidnapped two-and-half years back.

The High court yesterday pulled up the police for the second time based on a habeas corpus filed by Ranga Reddy, father of Mounashree who was kidnapped from her school in 2006.

The CoD officials investigated and filed the report with the high court since the parents moved the court.

However, the court was not satisfied with the report and demanded the child should be traced immediately.

"We have done our best and worked according to the Supreme Court guidelines on missing persons," said a police officer. He suspects that the woman kidnapped Mounashree not for ransom, but since she wanted to have a child.

But Ranga Reddy refutes the officer and says, "The police have not done enough to help us get back our child. They are only trying to find excuses."

Police officials say they have to buck up each time a habeas corpus case is filed as the High Court takes stringent action then. "But if a reward is announced for every missing case, then the department will go bankrupt," said the officer.

He said on an average the city gets around 100 missing complaints every month.

Earlier a divisional bench of high court pulled up the city police chief for failing to track a missing girl from Indiranagar. SM Bidari who appeared before the bench had promised to trace the girl within a week.
