ACB officials arrested Baliram Ramchandra Shinde (56), an office superintendent at the Maharashtra Police headquarters in Colaba, on Monday. Shinde was arrested at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. He had demanded the bribe from a constable who wanted to build a house in Pune and needed the department’s permission for the same.

Shinde had initially demanded Rs 20,000 from the constable, who refused to pay so much and approached the Bureau. “As the constable did not wish to give the money, he approached us and a trap was laid. Shinde was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 at CST,” said Praveen Dixit, director general of police, Maharashtra ACB.

When ACB raided Shinde’s Sanpada house, they found Rs 75 lakh in cash and Rs 14 lakh in fixed deposits and other investment instruments. They also learnt that Shinde owned the apartment he was living in. He will be in ACB’s custody till October 25.
