Retired Assistant Police Inspector Sakharam Abaji Dalvi (61) and Police Naik of Shirur police station Eknath Takuji Waje were caught red-handed accepting a bribe from a person last afternoon.
The two were caught after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid a trap. It was learnt that a bribe of Rs 20,000 had been demanded to submit a favourable report to the court.
The complainant was Anil Shahurao Gaikwad (50), resident of 1248, Revenue Colony, Shirur, who has a printing press in partnership with his brother-in-law Deelip Lokhande.
Waje was investigating a complaint in which it was alleged that Lokhande cheated Gaikwad by defaulting on an instalment towards a joint bank loan taken for business.
Gaikwad approached the ACB on November 16, claiming that Waje had demanded a bribe from him. A team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Naik Patil of ACB laid a trap at a tea stall in front of the Shirur police station and caught Dalvi who accepted the bribe on behalf of Waje.
Waje was also arrested by the police from the spot. The case is being investigated by Police Inspector Prakash Shinde.
