Officials say permits will be issued via a lottery system in November; only those applicants who fulfil all the criteria set by them will be considered eligible
While the Vashi Regional Transport Office (RTO) plans to revive the 5,000 dead autorickshaw permits, it has laid down criteria that an applicant must fulfil before applying for the permits that would be issued via a lottery system. To ensure that the lottery system is a success, RTO officials would be seeking help from their counterparts in MHADA.

An official from the Vashi RTO said, “Through the lottery system, the selection of candidates would be random. This will give applicants an equal and fair chance to win permits.”
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Sanjay Dhaygude said applicants would have to fulfil criteria like having a badge, no criminal record, and adequate knowledge of the areas of operation, among others.
“Another important requirement is displaying women and police helpline numbers in the vehicle. We have to ensure that only after the applicants meet our criteria, their forms are accepted and considered for the lottery in November,” he added.
