Officials await certification from Transport Department confirming latest emission norms have been complied with by manufacturers of new models
Registrations of two and three-wheelers at the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have come to a standstill since May 27.u00a0
While the RTO officials admitted that there were no registrations happening for the time being, Transport Commissioner Bhaskar Rao maintained registrations were on as usual.
"There is no any confusion with regard to registrations at any of the RTOs nor we have stopped registering motor vehicles," said Rao.

Accordingly, all manufacturers of two, three and four-wheelers have adhered to the notification and have been manufacturing vehicles as per prescribed norms.
Over 1,000 plus two-wheelers get registered in Bangalore every day but not one vehicle has been registered since March 27 thanks to confusion between senior officials and RTO staff.
RTO officials appear to be under the impression that all new vehicles now require clearance from the Transport Office before they are registered with the RTO. The confusion appears to be widespread across the country.
Sources at the Transport Department said, "Manufacturers of any new model vehicle should get approval of any one of the seven vehicle testing agencies approved by the government of India.

After getting the certificate from the testing agency they have to submit it to the Transport Department for approval.
It is possible that some of them have not taken required approvals from the Transport Commissioner so far. This may be the reason why RTOs have not been registering the vehicles.
Few manufacturers have been granted permissions and few others have applied for approvals. They should get them within a day or two."
