Another lounge in Bandra came under BMC’s hammer yesterday, for having made illegal constructions that were allegedly threatening theu00a0safety of passers-by and vehicles. In spite of repeated notices sent to the recently opened Rude Lounge on Hill Road in Bandra, its proprietors had allegedly not bothered to take down the wood they had mounted on their terrace, which posed a threat to the pedestrians walking on the road below.

According to BMC officials, the lounge owners had modified the premises without obtaining permission from the civic body. Yesterday, a demolition squad from the BMC’s H (West) ward began razing the illegal structure on the terrace. “Many notices were sent to the lounge, all of which were ignored. That’s when we received orders to demolish it,” informed a BMC official.
“There are so many people walking down this road to shop, and there is heavy traffic all day. If the wood collapses, it could cause damage cars or injure pedestrians. The space for dining on the second floor is also illegal,” said Raju Kadam, engineer of the building and factory department of the H (West) ward.

One of the staffers in Rude Lounge said, “There have been innumerable complaints against us from residents here in the past two months. And some have been demanding money from us.” He further justified that both the floors of the building have wooden ceilings. Shiv Brahme from the Rude Lounge said, “There was no demolition and we were removing the planks of wood to prevent any mishap. There is nothing illegal here.”u00a0Last month, BMC had demolished illegal extensions made outside the Papa Pancho restaurant in Bandra. In the recent past, the civic body has demolished quite a few eateries on Carter Road, after residents complained.u00a0
