Pune: True to his word (refer “Have made up my mind to challenge BTC”, mid-day, July 28), the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) chairman Zavaray Poonawalla and colleagues on the managing committee of the race club have taken a decision to cut off the racing signal of Pune races if the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) does not fall in line with their demand of sharing the profits the BTC makes on the racing product of the RWITC as per the agreement.
It may be noted, that the Mumbai race club which conducts racing at Mahalaxmi and Pune racecourses, has always felt they are shortchanged by the BTC on this count.

Both RWITC and BTC are members of the Turf Authority of India (TRAI), the central body of Indian racing, and it is feared that this move by the Mumbai race club will strike at the heart of the co-operative spirit among the various race clubs in India.
The decision to give ultimatum to the BTC was taken in a managing committee meeting held here after the Independence Day card was run. mid-day tried to get in touch with Zavaray Poonawalla in this connection, but could not get through, and a message left on his phone was not responded to until going to the press.
