Graeme Smith is expected to recover from a hand injury in time for the first Test against India at Centurion next month, Cricket South Africa have confirmed.

There were growing fears the Proteas captain may only play a limited role against the World No 1 side after hurting his hand in the recent series against Pakistan.

Smith consulted a hand surgeon yesterday and after consultation, doctors have given the assurance that Smith's injury is healing within expectation and will make a full recovery and be available for the entire series against India.
