Earns roar of approval

Sabyasachi shows his stripes

Who could have thought that our national animal could be so fashionable? Weaving a collection around the Save our Tigers campaign and the Sunderbans, Sabyasachi presented a show that had the audience sitting up from start to end.

TIGER, TIGER: An ode to the feline

CAT WALK: Flowy dresses with tigers printed on the hem and striped gowns in the colours of the cat dominated the collection. He then adopted the style of the Sunderbans in his collection with flared, cap-sleeved blouses; floral print dresses and layered saris.

JUTE BOLE: Jute found a prominent place in the designs, be it the multi-coloured skirts or a piece simply tied to the waist. The sari found an interesting avatar in the form of a skirt and dupatta tied together at the waist.

FALLIN' FOR SABYA: So, as the show went on and the audience was in high spirits, few noticed a model trip during her walk, during the final line up. That is because all eyes were solely on Sabyasachi's designs.u00a0

GEN NEXT: 12 PM

GenNext designers painted the ramp with a riot of colours and had models sashay down in flowy fabrics and layered attire. Anna-Liza Ganguly and Anita Walia of deux-A presented a tribute to the street style of the '80s with sequinned leggings and jackets in leather and silk, complete with loud sunglasses.u00a0

u00a0Manas Dash had Indian tribal motifs hand painted on silk and digital prints on poplin. Albeit, his speaker dress reminded one of Manish Arora's carousel dress. Miriam Strehlau redefined casual chic, as models walked the ramp in everything from mismatched shoes to everyday rubber slippers.u00a0 The bright fluorescent colours paired with light cotton jackets and shirts used in her collection turned the ramp into a sunny beach. Deepti Pruthi and Shivaji Dutta showed promise but Timsy and Siddhartha of, I Know failed to impress.

PARVESH & JAI: 1.30 PM

Parvesh & Jai presented a collection rooted in tradition with their Rural Species line.u00a0 Complemented with handcrafted clutches, Indian flora and fauna was a major inspiration for the designer duo.
u00a0From embellished motifs prominently placed as collars and neck pieces to applique and hand embroidered gowns and kaftans, Rural Species brought an Indian touch to modern resort wear.

All that bling though, might just be a tad too much to flaunt on a laid-back summer vacation.u00a0 While show stopper Geeta Basra was dressed in an embroidered chaniya-choli, the animal-embroidered dresses and jackets stole the show.

MYOHO & PREETI KAPOOR: 3 PM

Arpan Vohra went nautical with his collection called Sail Away. Sailor girls walked down the ramp in dresses, maxis and skirts, embellished with zips and ropes. The plisse pants and tulle skirts were impressive. The theme also found expression through rope bracelets and neck pieces all for a day on the high seas.u00a0

Designers Kiran and Megha of Myoho went earthy with loose threads, visible safety pin tucks and shoes two sizes too loose for the girls. Preeti Kapoor presented a bridal collection, which was a good watch but had nothing new to offer.
