India's Saina Nehwal returns to China's Xin Wang during their BWF
World Superseries Finals Group B match in Liuzhou, China yesterday.
World No 4 Nehwal, who has already qualified for the last four stage of the competition, beat Xin 21-17, 22-20 in a keenly contested encounter that lasted 39 minutes. The Hyderabadi next takes on She will take on Denmark's Tine Baun in the semi-final today.
With this win, Nehwal bettered her record against Xin, having beaten her twice this year even though the Chinese has defeated the Indian four times overall.
Nehwal is just a step away from setting yet another record in the world of Indian badminton. A win today will make her the first Indian Indian singles player to reach the summit clash of the BWF World Superseries Finals.
Mixed doubles stars Jwala Gutta and V Diju are the only other Indians to have achieved the feat. They lost in the 2009 final to Christinna Pedersen and Joaquim Nielsen.
