Dumpling Khang
Himalayan Delicacies in Vakola, Santacruz
Run by Sreejani Rai, who hails from the Nepali Gorkha community, Dumpling Khang serves everything Himalayan, from steaming hot momos to Thukpa. A self-taught cook, Rai started Dumpling Khang to introduce Mumbaikars to authentic momos. “What they were serving as momos weren’t actually momos. That’s when I decided to set up my own shop,” says the 29-year-old self-taught cook. The eatery started as a two-day pop-up in March 2014, and last year, it opened its first outlet in Vakola. The menu includes chicken momos, veg momos and prawn momos along with thukpa and Aloo Dum Puri, most of which will be served at the Khao Galli event as well.

Pita Burg
Veg and non-veg pita burgers
If you’re tired of eating the same old burgers every day, you will love what Pita Burg has to offer. The brainchild of Akshay Rajani, Pita Burg is a concoction of sauces and a yummy filling of seekh kebabs or kheema (depending on your order) and caramelised onions, placed inside a pita bread, which is thicker than the usual variety.

“I don’t have a culinary background, but I have always wanted to do something with food, ideally fusion. That’s how I thought of creating my recipes, and I came across a pita burger. We serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties, including Shammi Kebab and Mutton Kheema,” says the Commerce graduate from HR College. Pita Burg is available only via food aggregators Swiggy, Zomato and Scootsy. Their burgers cost Rs150 and go up to Rs 250.

The Food Spring
Non-veg specialist
Led by Shagufta Syed, a 49-year-old woman (in pic) from Bandra, The Food Spring is all about experimenting with traditional food while retaining the essence of home-made fare.

The self-taught cook is known for her unique dishes including Chicken Lasagna, Moghlai dishes, chicken sandwiches and her version of Haleem that she says is going to be a major highlight of her stall at Khao Galli on Sunday. “I started small, with sauces and dips on TinyOwl, and now I have my clientele who order regularly from me,” informs Syed. She serves only in Bandra, and orders have to be placed at least a week in advance. However, she accepts orders from all over Mumbai as long they are self-picked.

Syed has won many awards for her cooking and was one of the most popular chefs on TinyOwl HomeMade till she moved on. She will be serving Moghlai cuisine, shammi kebabs, biryani and chef-style Haleem. Foodies can also enjoy home-made chocolates sold under the brand Shazam that have been prepared by her nieces.

Hungry Momma
Maharashtrian and Saraswat cuisine
Started in August 2015 by home chef Mugdha Agnihotri, Hungry Momma is known for the variations of chaat and Pav Bhaji that she has been whipping up in Mira Road.

“I have always been interested in food, but I used to cook only for my friends and family. I was also writing food blogs, but somehow I found that limiting. That’s when I decided to run my home-cooked service,” says the 29-year-old, who also runs a blog by the same name. Though self-taught, Agnihotri specialises in Maharashtrian and Saraswat cuisine and experiments with traditional ingredients. She takes orders only via Facebook.
At Gokul Village, Mira Road (E).

The Home Made Creamery
Handmade ice creams
A family-run business, The Home Made Creamery serves home-made ice creams, hand-churned using the the traditional handcranked method. All ice creams are made using natural ingredients without any essence or emulsifiers and sold in 500 ml tubs that cost '300.

“We stock only three flavours that are announced every Sunday on our Facebook page and on WhatsApp,” says Disha Sirkar, who founded the company with her father Kirtikumar Bhatt and sister Digisha Bhatt in January this year. Some of the popular flavours include seasonals like Kala Jamun, Alphonso and Kiwi and non-seasonal ones like Chocolate Brownie, Peppermint with Choco Chips, Meetha Paan, and Espresso with Choco Chips. “Since the flavours on our menu change every week, we do not store ice creams, and sell them only till stocks are available.
