India's chairman of selectors didn't want to just occupy a seat.

Sandeep Patil quits as Mumbai & West Zone chief selector

India's chairman of cricket selectors, Sandeep Patil has quit as chief of the Mumbai Cricket Association and West Zone selection committees.

Patil sent in his resignation recently to his parent association which required him to head the senior selection panel once he got the India job last September.

The former batting star felt that it was not fair to be on the panels when his busy schedule prevented him from watching local cricket. Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy for the 40th time with him as chairman. West Zone walked away with the Deodhar Trophy honours.

It is learnt that Patil was uncomfortable with having to depend on his fellow Mumbai selectors for inputs at selection meetings. He sought the Board of Control for Cricket in India's permission to quit the two panels.

Thus, the Mumbai Cricket Association have to pick a new selector to join the existing panel of Abey Kuruvilla, Deepak Jadhav and Rajesh Sutar.
