Sania-Bethanie edged out Czech-German duo of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Kveta Peschke 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 in a battle lasting little over one hour thirty minutes.
There was very little to choose between the teams until the Indo-American combine clinched the issue in the super tie-break. The win has come at the right time for Sania-Bethanie, who would like to maintain their impressive run in the Australian Open beginning on January 14.
Williams routs opponent
Meanwhile, Serena Williams confirmed her eagerness to get started at the Australian Open as she demolished Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 6-1 in just 50 minutes to win the Brisbane International.
Third-seeded Williams served notice that she will be the one to beat at the first Grand Slam of the year with a ruthless display against Pavlyuchenkova, the World No 36.
